Cache Containers

I used to buy nicer cache containers, but this year has been harder with money so I decided I wasn't going to buy any... instead I've collected any watertight containers I can get my hands on... Here is what I'm working on tonight :

I'll put duct tape on them and paint them and make them look a little less like garbage and a little more like geocaches and it didn't cost me hardly anything.

Galileo 400 & Westminster

Kristie and I picked up The Great Mandeenee for a little caching in Salt Lake, we stopped by the end of an event (GSAK 101) and then went to find a couple of caches that I've been hearing are "must-do's" that I never got around to previously.

Westminster was really cool, I saw DillyPickles mention it on facebook as one of their favorites, so I was curious and decided we better check it out. It was really cool, we found a button with a key attached to it and instructions to go about 250' north and push the button... we did and we found out that it was a wireless doorbell, we were greeted by a doorbell ringing and found the cache that needed to be unlocked with the key we brought.

Galileo 400 was also really cool, the owner had emailed me when it was published saying I should go check it out and I kept saying "next time" for about a year and a half... we took the cap off a fence post, reached down and found a little PVC pipe, after pulling it about six feet up we found it was attached to a thicker pipe, six more feet and another, thicker pipe... it was quite the long cache container by the time we were done!

Portkey Mile

Some of the kids on last week's hike had taken the stamp and pad from PORTKEY MILE Letterbox Hybrid, I didn't know until we got home so today Kristie and I hiked back up to return it. It was so beautiful up there with even more fall colors.

We went exploring after we dropped off the stamp, we saw some grouse and woodpeckers, we bushwhacked up a crazy hill and hid some caches... it was a lot of fun!

Maple Canyon

Kristie and I took her family (her kids, her siblings, her sibling's kids, her Mom) on a gorgeous hike up Maple Canyon, we stopped at all the geocaches along the way, the kids got to ride a horse, it was a great time.

Geofrustration

It's been a hard couple weeks full of hate mail, threats of suspension, more cache stealing than ever and just a general uprising of the usual "enemies" and their new recruits... I'm not really sure where to go from here..... or what to say.

Is it too much to dream of a geoworld without geodrama?

Streaking

Some cachers try to find a cache every day, some try to see how long they can do that... my best was 166 days in a row before I missed a day, that was hard... so I am impressed with people like DrJay who have huge numbers... as far as I know the top in the world are :

1. frivlas - 1,969
2. DrJay - 1,358
(and about 10 more with over 1,000 )

10-10-10 Event

I had a lot of fun at the 10-10-10 Event. Brian (PeanutsParents) set up a fun game where we had an hour to go look for at many "10's" as we could find, I was on a team with Justin and Loralee and we got 3rd place with 115 10's.

Halloweenies

I had my monthly Springville hot dog event, called it Halloweenies this month (thanks to the Morty's).

firennice brought his new camera to show off, it was awesome. He took the above photo is Kristie and I.

I like these traditional events, it is fun to see the local cacher friends so regularly.

Fort Heber Corners

Some new caches in Heber I was excited to go get were hidden at the locations of the corners of the old fort, Fort Heber Northeast Corner #1, Fort Heber Northwest Corner #4 and Fort Heber Southwest Corner #3.

I am reminded of a couple of my caches...

I also got Heber's 'Gross' Cache while in the area.

Wardsworth Canyon Fall Colors

Kristie and I took her kids up Wardsworth Canyon to find Last of the Mohicans and enjoy the fall colors, it was 1.3 miles one-way and took us an hour to get up and 40 minutes to get down.
We also found Three Little Aliens on the way down in the dark.

UVCA September: Bust Your Melons!

UVCA September: Bust Your Melons! was a fun event in Provo. Here are some photos from it...

Machete Caching!

A little caching adventure with DrJay and poorjack, poorjack had recently purchased a machete and wouldn't dream of caching without it... you never know if you might need it, right?

Any outing with either of them is bound to be a ton of fun, so going with both was great.
